Spring Update #1
Since the close of 1st semester and the beginning of the 2nd semester my classes have not really focused on the ImagineIT idea of demystifying magic. We have continued the discussion around it so they are aware of what they will need to do in the future, but my focus has been on making sure the students have the proper background information to explain what is happening on the scientific level. When we start out the year we focus so much on the background knowledge needed to actually understand Chemistry. We are now wrapping up bonding which I am very excited about because this is where content knowledge of Chemistry (in my humble opinion) begins. Now that students understands how bonds are created they will be able to further understand how bonds are broken, formed again, and why compounds behave the way that they do. This is the knowledge truly needed to understand the "magic". In a few weeks, we will begin to understand chemical reactions and this is where I plan to push the gas further on the ImagineIt project. So, I don't have any new artifacts to share right now, but you will be seeing some pretty soon and I'm excited about the work my students will end up producing! There is definitely more to come!
